Women's Cycling with comolagobike

Women's cycling is so important to me. I've been riding for 30 years and part of the Seattle women's cycling community for over 10 years. For most of my life I've seen how the confidence that women cultivate riding bikes benefits their own personal growth, health, and well being. The act of traveling to new places, whether as a seasoned or a neophyte traveler, also provides a huge level of confidence as you take a deep breath to face the unknown and prepare yourself for what lies ahead. But - as Dr. Seuss once said - Oh the places you will go!

In all regions of the U.S. we see women cycling for fun or competition and exploring new areas on their own, with their partners, or with a group of friends. In Italy, however, women cyclists are often a rare sight. It wasn't long after I started visiting this area that I was determined to make it more well known to women and to help them travel to this cycling playground. I wanted them to know how welcome they are to challenge themselves on the long climbs or being blissfully distracted by a ride's vista as much as they are welcome to indulge in a village gelato shop (because trust me the men do).  ComoLagoBike routinely takes women on daily rides and longer trips - they're just waiting for you to arrive!

In September 2016 we had the first Women's Cycling Week in Lake Como, with 8 women making their first trip. Some were new international travelers and some had been all over the globe, and a few even left their husbands at home. But they all came together not knowing everyone, and left with bellies full of laughs and lasting friendships. Oh....and they rode more than they ever thought they could! Take a moment to read Emily's honest trip report about self discovery and Growing Wings on our trip. This is the kind of women's cycling travel that fills my heart and I want you to be next. You do not need to wait for an official "women's week", however. Grab your best girlfriends and I'll help you put your trip together for a few days or longer. A solo traveler? Even better! Make new friends for life, there are always cyclists from all over the world staying at Hotel Il Perlo and it's easy for the guides to take everyone out together.

One of the most phenomenal aspects of riding here is how much more you can  accomplish than what you thought was possible. Still intimidated by the idea of the terrain or unknown? The guides are trained to read and know their clients, sometimes better than yourself. Each day you'll take yourself on new roads and to views beyond imagination. Leave your insecurities on a piece of paper in a tightly lidded jar at home, and discover a place where you can find the stronger more confident person inside you. I am not a climber by any means, but when there are ancient fountains and shrines along the way, then an epic view waiting, what's not to enjoy about going uphill? Whether you are molto veloce or molto lento, there is a place for you to ride in Lake Como!
